It’s been three months since video captured police officers unloading 17 deadly shots into the body of migrant Antonio Zambrano-Montes.
In Baltimore, Maryland, and Charleston, South Carolina — where recent police shootings were also captured on video, state officials intervened by launching independent investigations which led to charges being filed against police officers and a DOJ investigation in both cases.
The DOJ has so far chosen not to intervene in Pasco, Washington, and instead let the local investigation run its course. However, Prosecuting Attorney, Shawn Sant, an ex-cop, has a reputation for being lenient with police officers.
Community members are skeptical that justice will be served because of the cozy relationship between Shawn Sant and the police. Justice will not be served for the Zambrano-Montes family if there is any collusion between those investigating and the police who committed the crime. Washington State officials need to assign a special prosecutor that is capable and impartial enough to charge the police.
Will you call on Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Governor Jay Inslee to appoint a special prosecutor to Zambrano-Montes’ case?
