    The Message

    Dear Member of Congress,

Facial recognition surveillance is biased, invasive, and it violates my basic rights. We’ve seen case after case of facial recognition being used in ways that augment racist policing and infringe on human rights, and we cannot allow this to continue.

The Facial Recognition and Biometric Technology Moratorium Act of 2021, sponsored by Senators Markey, Merkley, Sanders, Warren, and Wyden, along with Representatives Jayapal, Pressley, and Tlaib, would put an end to the government’s use of this uniquely dangerous surveillance technology.

In just the past year police have used facial recognition to identify people protesting the murder of George Floyd, and there have been multiple cases of Black men being misidentified by facial recognition and arrested for crimes they didn’t commit.

This technology is inherently oppressive and cannot be reformed or regulated—it must be abolished.

I urge you to pass legislation that bans the government from using this dangerous technology.

    Thank you,

Facial recognition is unreliable, unjust, and a threat to basic rights and safety. There are more and more examples of government and law enforcement using this technology, which is why we need to act now to stop it.
